Live Coding Education with Sonic Pi (Workshop)

This session will share the story of Sonic Pi – a new free live coding environment for teaching introductory computer science.

Sonic Pi uses music as a novel way of engaging students in the  very basics of code, algorithmic design and computational thinking. It enables students to turn code into fun and exciting sounds.

However, Sonic Pi isn’t just a tool for engaging beginners. It also rewards practice and dedication to provide new motivational pathways. Professional musicians are using Sonic Pi around the world to to both compose and perform.

Together we will see and hear how Sonic Pi both maps onto the school Computing curriculum yet engages users to go much further whilst having a lot of fun exploring the creatvity of code.
